With this prototype we aim at mapping the gallery and accesses and, later, try to distinguish different rock types/densities around it. The primary location will be chosen to maximize the contrasts to see. | |

The muon data should be complemented by external information on topography, for example and will later be compared and combined with measurements by other methods. The final result should be obtained by common inversion of gravimetry and muography data. | === Tomography of the Coimbra Building === |

Being at a Ciência Viva center, the detector should be accompanied by an explanation of what and how it is measuring muons and of the final goals of the project; if possible, the telescope should have some display of the data as it is collected. Ideally we'd join other displays, like a muon spark chamber. | A RPC based Muon Telescope has been operating in the LIP-Coimbra detector laboratory for many years. Project Overview
The muon tomography group puts together different expertises on particle detection, simulation and analysis and geophysics data analysis and interpretation, based in Coimbra, Évora and Lisboa.
Next meeting in September 2018:
- plans for Lousal
- longer term plans
Pilot Project at Lousal
A first goal is to install a RPC based Muon Telescope at the Lousal Ciência Viva center, and operate it remotely, 30 meters underground in a (non-active) mine environment, and exposed to visitors and even some bats.
Tomography of the Coimbra Building
A RPC based Muon Telescope has been operating in the LIP-Coimbra detector laboratory for many years. It is used to test each new detector plane that is produced there. We can use the data also to image the building of the UCoimbra Physics department building.
There is a lot of data available from the detector test muon telescope at Coimbra.
Some pre-treated data is in: www.coimbra.lip.pt/~alberto/data.tar.gz with format:

Posição longitudinal P1, P2, P3, P4, - diferença de tempo, escala de TDC bins
Posição transversal de P1, P2, P3, P4, - 1 de 15 strips de 30 mm (0.4 mm de intervalo)
Tempos do telescópio T1, T2, T3, T4, sem calibrar - média dos tempos, usada no trigger
As posições verticais são: P1=49.75 cm, P2=52.25 cm, P3=2.25 cm, P4=6.75cm.
