Notes:

  • spacing refers to the (approximate) distance between the RPC planes

  • orientation referes to the rotation angle of the RPC planes around the vertical, measured counterclockwise and relative to the orientation of the original position (in the original position, the front-end electronics side is next to the wall that separates the room B.24 from the rooms B.S3 and B.24.3)

  • the trolley inclination is towards the entrance door

2021 - 15 a 21 Jun - test self-trigger / cable change / gas recirculation

back to normal at 17h of July 20 (not clear the intermediate state)

Old data acquisitions

A RPC based Muon Telescope has been operating in the LIP-Coimbra detector laboratory for many years. It is used to test each new detector plane that is produced there. We can use the data also to image the building of the UCoimbra Physics department building.

There is a lot of data available from the detector test muon telescope at Coimbra.

This is a 2.0 m x 0.5 m x 0.5 m telescope, with 4 planes at Z=(2.25,6.75;49.75,52.25)cm.

The new detector planes are at 143 cm for testing, and do not participate in the trigger.

  • The data consists on (time, charge) x 2 ends x 15 strips x 4 RPC planes
  • The trigger is a coincidence, within 50 ns, of 1(/2) top and 1(/2) bottom signals
  • The event T0 is defined as the minimum of the times (T1) on the trigger side
  • The two top planes are 4 gap RPCs, the two lower are 10 gaps RPCs, sharing HV
  • Monitoring has 3 HV, 4 gas flux, 1 current + enviorment at test plane (8T, 1P, 1H)

Some pre-treated data is in: www.coimbra.lip.pt/~alberto/data.tar.gz with format:

  • Ano, mes, dia, hora, minuto, segundo,
  • A posição vertical é P1=49.75 cm, P2=52.25 cm, P3=2.25 cm, P4=6.75cm.

=> Good for practicing data cleaning, data reconstruction and imaging techniques

=> Good plans for master thesis, smaller student projects and cases for outreach

The master thesis of Vitor (USP-S.Carlos) is based on this data The PhD thesis project of João Saraiva, for general reference
